Caring For Your Body With Compassion

8 Week Virtual Support Group

Are you tired of feeling like you are at war with your own body? What if it was possible to care for your body with curiosity, compassion and understanding?

Join Katie Poirier, Registered Psychologist and Kalin Herbach, Registered Dietitian, for a virtual eight-week support group focused on caring for your body with compassion.

In The Caring for your Body with Compassion support group:

We will focus on concepts and strategies to support you in developing a positive relationship with your mind and body. Our culture teaches us that our bodies can’t be trusted, and convinces us that we must rely on external factors to meet our needs. This group will support you in learning how to trust and respect your body again, with the intention of caring for yourself in a way that supports all aspects of your well being.

Week 1: Setting The Framework

Introduction and establish specific topics of interest for each participant. Explore concepts that will guide support group, including a weight normative vs. weight inclusive approach, diet culture, weight stigma, intuitive eating and health ideals.

Week 2: Self-Compassion

Explore the three elements of self compassion, and what it means to care for yourself compassionately. Establish personal intentions around what this could look like moving forward.

Week 3: Redefining Health

Our culture has a very narrow minded view of what health looks like. Explore where your ideas of what health means have come from, and work towards redefining what health means to you.

Week 4 & 5: The Non Diet Approach
Explore the concepts of intuitive eating and learn strategies to support a positive relationship with food and body.

Week 6: Cultivating Compassion and Closing

In our last group, we will put all the pieces together so that you walk away feeling confident and comfortable with continuing your journey. We will reflect back on our time together and will close with helpful resources to support you in maintaining this new approach to self-care. Content will be adapted dependent on the needs and unique interests of the group participants. This group is not a substitute for individual medical or mental health advice. Rather, it is a brave space to explore a new way of caring for yourself that involves curiosity, compassion, discussion and support. Women and gender non-conforming folks over the age of 18 are invited to participate.

This group is appropriate for individuals with food and body image challenges. Individuals affected by an eating disorder are best supported through an EDSNA support group or 1:1 support. There are a maximum of 8 spots to allow for full participation.
