Every pelvic floor assessment always starts with a detailed verbal history of your presenting concern. We will review your applicable past medical history, and ask appropriate questions pertaining to things such as your pain, bladder & bowel function, sexual function, or stress management to name a few. This is followed by an external or an objective assessment. We use this to look at you as a whole person and determine what could be contributing to your concern. This typically involves assessing things such as posture and alignment, movement patterns, breathing, and tissue mobility & strength. Depending on your concern, sometimes an internal examination is indicated to further assess these tissues to determine their role. We only ever perform these examinations if necessary, and after gaining proper consent from the patient. Once we have gathered all the information, the course of treatment is determined and you will be educated on your findings and sent home with a personalized treatment plan that may include things such as breathing techniques, stretches and/or exercises and more.
